Gemma Bamforth (b. 1988, Australia) is a multidisciplinary artist based on the South Coast of New South Wales, on the traditional land of the Dharawal people.

Gemma trained in Fashion Design at Ultimo TAFE and Graphic Design at Billy Blue College, building a career across the fashion industry for over a decade before returning to a practice that had quietly underpinned her life since childhood.

Her work is driven by a sustained curiosity to observe and document the living world. Situated between the escarpment and the sea, Gemma's practice is informed by philosophy, literature, and an attentiveness to the natural rhythms of her environment. This grounded, contemplative way of living, alongside a sustained meditation practice, forms the conceptual basis of her work, most often rendered in ink, pencil, and oil paint.

Gemma's pieces are characterised by deliberate, emotive line work and sweeping, blurred renders of muddled colour - a visual language that resists resolution in favour of feeling. Her work invites the viewer not simply to observe, but to participate in the poetry and emotional register embedded within each piece.

For Gemma, art is a mode of self-understanding, a vehicle for expression, and, above all, a pursuit of beauty.
